So today I stopped at the local convienence store. I was just getting a hot dog for me and a cup of ice for my dog. The AC doesn't work in my car right now, so I parked right in front of the doors, left both front windows open and the moon roof. (If it had been in the 90's I wouldn't have had him with me.) There is a car on either side of me with someone sitting in both. I get out, tell Duncan to stay, and head for the store. The guy on Duncan's side toots his horn at me and starts to gesture pointing at my dog. I thought he was giving me a hard time about leaving my dog in the car, but wasn't sure. Finally he roles down his window. In a thick Jamaican accent he tells me to roll up my window so my dog won't get him!
One: There is NO WAY I'm closing that window with my dog in the car as warm as it is.
Two: If my dog were a problem in public, I wouldn't have him in public.
I tell the guy that my dog is fine, just don't touch the car, and I go in. (He probably would have been fine if he touched the car, but I don't say that to strangers).
When I come out, the woman in the car next to me roles her window down, and says "What a good dog! He never moved." I thank her and started to mention about the other guy. She says she saw and heard the whole thing and thought the man was silly.
Don't know where this guy was coming from, but in that area - farm country - you see dogs in cars & trucks all the time, it's no big deal.

Yeah we see dogs left in truck cabs or the bed of the pick-up if their are tools in the back, all the time too while the owner runs in to pay for gas or get a drink. The dogs are always perfect and never move or bark...but I have noticed that non-locals seem to be worried by them. huh.gif
I would love to see a bumper sticker on one of these trucks they says..."My dog is a country dog....he knows how to be well behaved and mind his manners"

I can see both sides. I probably would have replied "well just don't do anything to tick him off and you'll be okay. Oh and don't eat anything infront of him, that really makes him mad when people don't share"
You might as well have a little fun

Forrest Gump comes to mind, "stupid is as stupid does"

Do they eat dogs in Jamaica? Maybe that's why the guy acted that way?

If it hadn't been on the warm side, I would have rolled the window up. I do sympathize with people who are afraid of dogs . . . to a point. But I, as the owner, was right there and I knew what my dog would do. He may not have done anything if the guy had just touched the car, but if he had made any threatening gestures towards me, that would have been another whole story!
I can't take Duncan on the days that I am training a horse in the round pen, he thinks he needs to protect or help me. rolleyes.gif

For you and other people he knows? That's about right. But don't be fooled, if he percieves a threat to me he WILL protect me, he's demonstrated that before.

Why didn't he just roll up his window? blink.gif
